Use Audiocard to drive reward pulse

Hi,

Is it possible to use the audio card of your PC to drive the reward system or can you only use a DAQ board or Bluetooth for this?

Edit: If so, how do you do this?

Thanks

Sound cards do not provide enough voltages to trigger reward devices, so it is not possible. You can use a parallel port, if you want a cheap solution.

Perhaps it would be possible if you did some relatively basic signal conditioning like a DC bias circuit/voltage divider, and maybe some amplification with an op amp. I think it would be just a few basic electronic components like resistors/capacitors/op amp that would accept the audio signal and pass it to the Arduino after conditioning. Though there may or may not be a risk of damaging your audio card.
